You realise the Millennium Stadium was a monstrous balls up that pretty well bankrupted John Laing, yes?

Sauce?

It isn't a cantilever roof it is a tentile roof - so if the sauce described it as such that gives some sense of how much they know.

Re: Roof problem at OS
Sold the millenium stadium was a different kettle of fish entirely. They even kept one of the stands of Cardiff arms park in its construction to keep costs down.

there have been two major cost issues with the OS. First was the cost of scrubbing the earth, which was astronomical (there was once a nuclear research facility on site and the ground underneath is still mildly radioactive believe it or not, ii believe around the away end). Second was this retrofit to make it multipurpose. They should have designed it that way in the first place and magnusson said we'd put £100 mil into it but ken Livingston turned it down in favour of a 25k athletics facility that would have been immediately redundant.

Gav.... it's an embarrassing public paid cash cow... how many Millenium stadiums could we have had for the same tax payers money??

Re: Roof problem at OS
Ha! Is that why all the stuff built post war is now being systematically torn down, soldo?

there's been a massive improvement in getting large scale infrastructure projects done in this country in recent years. Plus as noted, the contractor is doing the job at a fixed price.

What an absolute abortion.... old school contractors would say fuck this .... make a brew... go to the cafe for a soss' sarnie... go to the pub... and fuck off and leave the thing half built....what an embarrassing mess

Re: Roof problem at OS
Bit of a non story really as the contractor will have to bear the additional cost by the looks of it!

A problem at the Olympic Stadium? I won't have it.

It is perfect, nothing will ever go wrong and we'll be GUARANTEED success by going there.

His quote was quite funny though,

"So if we are now saying that it is going to cost us £15m more then it is less of the legacy, less of the housing that we need, less of the green space that we need as a result of this stupid roof they've decided to put on a stadium that doesn't work for football or anything."

Re: Roof problem at OS
According to that report on Sky news the contractors will cover the extra cost by savings elsewhere so it's basically a non-story.

Plus, it's not a stadium that will be used exclusively by West Ham because the rugby world cup will be held there, athletics and loads of other stuff.

Blimey Doc, don't say that too loud. Wasn't that the basis of Tottenham's original bid ?

Re: Roof problem at OS
Not our problem or responsibility, seen as we're just renting the place! It'll be all ready for 2016, I am sure.

Re: Roof problem at OS
Why don't they rip it down and restart? Wouldn't have cost a lot more than it already has.
